GesherNU is Northwestern Hillel’s new leadership journey to Israel and the Palestinian Territories. The purpose of GesherNU is to educate emerging and current Northwestern Jewish undergraduate student leaders about Israel and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, illuminating the complexities and nuances through an immersive, experiential approach.

Gesher, the Hebrew word for “bridge,” is a guiding principle of this journey. Successful applicants will be current or aspiring campus bridge-builders, motivated to engage thoughtfully and constructively with peers across campus. Being a bridge-builder in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict means fostering open dialogue within and outside the Jewish community, addressing difficult conversations, and striving for mutual understanding and respectful discourse at Northwestern. Upon returning to campus, students will be expected, both as a cohort and as individuals, to actively build connections and promote constructive engagement among students of diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

When:
* Applications are due Friday, November 10, 2024.
* Interviews will take place in November 2024.
* Pre-trip orientation sessions will take place January - March 2025.
* Dates for our journey to Israel and the Palestinian Territories will be March 23 - 30, 2025.
* Post-trip programming will take place in spring 2025.

If you have questions about GesherNU or would like further information, please contact Executive Director Michael Simon.

Northwestern Hillel is an initiative of the Jewish United Fund, supported by Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life.

Northwestern Hillel is a member of the Jewish Leadership Circle (JLC), which recognizes Jewish institutions for their commitments to support alternatives to factory farming — a root cause of injustice for humans, animals, and the environment. Our Hillel was awarded membership for committing to reduce the volume of animal products we serve by at least 20 percent.
